14 in (350 mm) EPDM Lugged Butterfly Valve, Gear-Op | VWLGEX35SS

This AAP EPDM lugged butterfly valve has a ductile iron body, an SS316 disc, an EPDM seat and a gear operator. It is supplied in 5 sizes from 14 in (350 mm) to 24 in (600 mm).

A butterfly valve turns a disc on a central stem through a quarter turn: with the disc in line with the flow the valve is open, and turned across the flow it is closed. The resilient seat is the soft liner the disc seals against. AAP says its resilient seat butterfly valves are compact, give bubble tight shut-off and have good regulating capabilities, and lists them for HVAC, petrochemical, pulp and paper, water and wastewater treatment, brewing, food processing, mining, textile and general industry (manufacturer-stated).

Like the wafer style, the lugged body is compact, but it has lugs cast into the body and tapped with a metric thread, so a flange can be fixed on one side at a time. AAP says this lets you mount the valve at the end of a pipeline without a flange on the downstream (discharge) side (manufacturer-stated).

AAP gives a cold working pressure of 1,000 kPa (10 bar) for its 350 mm to 600 mm lugged valves, with a top flange to ISO 5211 (manufacturer-stated).

The seat is EPDM. AAP gives EPDM a temperature of 120 degrees C, says it is generally resistant to animal and vegetable oils, ozone, and strong and oxidising chemicals and is generally affected or attacked by mineral oils and solvents and aromatic hydrocarbons (all manufacturer-stated). The seat temperature is a material figure, not a valve rating, so ask AIMS for the pressure and temperature rating if the valve will run hot.

AAP supplies the 14 in to 24 in sizes with a gear operator as standard (manufacturer-stated). A gear operator gives finer control than a lever, because AAP says levers and notch plates only have 10 position settings.

AAP lists its Watermark approval against the 50 mm to 300 mm EPDM version only, so it does not cover the 350 mm to 600 mm sizes. Ask AIMS if you need a drinking water approval.

AAP gives one operating torque per size at PN16 and does not say which seat material it applies to, so allow a margin when you size an actuator.

Selecting the right option

Choose the size to match your pipe, and choose wafer or lugged to suit how the valve will be mounted. Check the seat material against your fluid and temperature using the seat material guide on this page. These sizes come with a gear operator, so check the clearance around the operator and handwheel in your pipework.
