1/2 in (15 mm) Galvanised Female Union, Bronze-Bronze Seat | SU15BBG

This AAP galvanised female union is a mild steel fitting with BSP threads. It is supplied in 6 sizes, 1/2 in (15 mm) to 2 in (50 mm).

A union joins two pipes with a joint that can be broken and made again without turning the pipework. This one is threaded inside (female) at both ends and has a ball to cone seat, as AAP describes. AAP lists steel unions for make-and-break joints on filters, valves, hoses, machinery and general piping that needs periodic disconnection (manufacturer-stated).

This one has a bronze-bronze seat. AAP describes bronze-bronze (BB) seats as recommended where corrosion from the fluid or condensation is a major factor and the union is disconnected constantly, and as well suited to steam lines (manufacturer-stated).

AAP states that its steel threaded pipe fittings are made to BS EN 10241:2000 (manufacturer-stated). AAP states that its zinc coated unions are electro zinc plated, which coats them inside and out (manufacturer-stated). AAP states that unions up to 2 in nominal bore are each tested to 13.8 MPa and sample tested to 20.7 MPa, and unions over 2 in are each tested to 10.3 MPa (manufacturer-stated). These are test pressures, not working pressures, so confirm the pressure and temperature for your application with AIMS before you order. AAP lists its zinc coated unions as particularly suitable where there is condensation, such as in air and gas lines (manufacturer-stated).

A is the approximate overall length, B the nut across flats and C the body across flats, as lettered on the AAP drawing, in millimetres. AAP states the nut is hexagon up to 1 in and octagon from 1-1/4 in, and the body flats are octagon. Weights are approximate, in kilograms per piece.

Selecting the right option

Choose the size to match your pipework. These fittings are BSP threaded, so check that your pipe or fitting is BSP and not NPT before you order. AAP also lists sizes (SU08BBG, SU10BBG, SU65BBG, SU80BBG, SU94BBG) in this range, which AIMS does not currently list. Ask if you need one.
