1/2 in (15 mm) Socket Weld Flange, ANSI B16.5 Class 150 | PF15S
Available
This AAP socket weld flange is made from carbon steel to ANSI B16.5 Class 150 (manufacturer-stated). It is supplied in 6 sizes from 1/2 in (15 mm) to 2 in (50 mm).
A socket weld flange has a recess that the pipe is pushed into before it is fillet welded around the outside. It is used on small bore pipework. AAP describes forged steel flanges as commonly specified in the oil, gas, petrochemical and mining sectors, where pressure, temperature and safety considerations are higher. They are hot forged and then machined.
AAP's temperature and pressure table for ASTM A105 flanges lists a maximum working pressure of 1,960 kPa (19.6 bar) for Class 150 from -29 to 38 °C, falling to 560 kPa (5.6 bar) at 425 °C. AAP notes that A105 forgings are not recommended for prolonged use above 427 °C.

Selecting the right option
Check the pipe outside diameter against the socket size before ordering, and leave the expansion gap your welding procedure calls for. Match the standard and table or class to the mating flange and compare the drilling dimensions listed on this page, because flanges made to different standards are not interchangeable. Gaskets and bolting are not part of this listing. If you are not sure what suits, contact AIMS with the standard and size of the mating flange.
