Selecting the right option
MIG wire diameter is matched to material thickness: 0.8mm for thin sheet (1–3mm), 0.9mm for general fabrication, 1.2mm for heavy steel. AWS classification (ER70S-6, E71T-1) tells you the material type and transfer characteristics. Flux-cored wire suits outdoor welding where gas coverage may be compromised by wind.
