An external circlip snaps into a groove machined in the shaft and holds a bearing, gear or other component against axial movement. Groove diameter, groove width, ring thickness, ring dimensions, weight and thrust ratings are listed for every part number.

Selecting and fitting
Choose the circlip from the shaft diameter and machine the groove to the diameter G and width W listed for that size. The edge distance n (min) is the least distance between the groove and the end of the shaft, and the lug hole h (min) is the hole size for the circlip pliers.
Fit and remove with external circlip pliers, and check the circlip is fully seated in the groove.
