CorrosionX 91002 Corrosion Inhibitor & Lubricant Trigger Spray 473ml
Available
CorrosionX 91002 is the standard, thin-film CorrosionX corrosion inhibitor, moisture displacer and lubricant in liquid form, in a trigger spray bottle. The manufacturer, Corrosion Technologies, describes a Polar Bonding technology: the fluid is attracted to metal, displaces moisture and the electrolytes that accelerate corrosion, then leaves an ultra-thin, self-healing film.
The manufacturer states that CorrosionX will not short sensitive circuits or interfere with electrical connections. As a liquid with no propellant, the bulk SDS figures for solids, specific gravity and flash point apply to this pack, not the aerosol figures.

Selecting the right option
This is the thin-film grade in a liquid trigger pack. For direct exposure to rain, snow or seawater the manufacturer points to the thick-film Heavy Duty (CorrosionX 90104 Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor, Moisture Displacer & Lubricant Aerosol 355ml); CorrosionX XD Corrosion Inhibitor & Lubricant is the medium-build version between the two.
The same formulation is also sold as an aerosol in CorrosionX 90102 Corrosion Inhibitor, Moisture Displacer & Lubricant Aerosol 473ml.
Using it
The manufacturer's data gives no directions for application, surface preparation, film build or re-application intervals.
Data sheet compatibility: no visible effect on nitrile/Buna-N, Viton or neoprene; slight swelling or softening of butyl rubber. Some adhesives may soften and silicone sealants may swell slightly, so test a small sample first. Paints typically used on aircraft, automobiles and machinery are unaffected; polishes and some wax coatings may soften. It is compatible with acrylic, polyester, nylon, vinyl, Delrin, PTFE, Formica, polyethylene and polypropylene. It is absorbed into the fibres of most fabrics and will stain them. The stain is not permanent and can be removed with naphtha or mineral spirits.
Avoid breathing mist or spray, and wear protective gloves (SDS).
Storage and handling
Store at room temperature, 10 °C (50 °F) or more, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place in the original container, and keep the container closed when not in use. The data sheet gives an indefinite shelf life for bulk liquid while the container remains capped.
Limits and safety
US SDS classification for the liquid: Skin Sensitiser Category 1A, Eye Irritation Category 2B, Aspiration Hazard Category 1B, signal word DANGER. Causes eye irritation, may cause an allergic skin reaction and may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. The US SDS lists it as non-hazardous / non-restricted for road, sea and air transport; the SDS available is in US format, so confirm the Australian classification before shipping. Heating above 180 °C over long periods degrades the resin (SDS). The military specification listings are US qualifications only. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
Is CorrosionX 91002 safe to use on electrical connections?
The manufacturer says CorrosionX will not short sensitive circuits or interfere with electrical connections, and that it cleans contact points and often improves connectivity.
What is the flash point of the CorrosionX liquid?
143 °C (290 °F), Cleveland open cup, per the manufacturer product page and the bulk SDS. This differs from the aerosol, which is 132 °C.
What temperature range can CorrosionX be used over?
The manufacturer product page gives an operating temperature range of -22 °F to >400 °F (about -30 °C to over 204 °C) for standard CorrosionX.
How does it perform in salt spray and humidity?
The manufacturer product page gives >360 hrs on carbon steel and >840 hrs on T3 aluminium in ASTM B117 salt spray. The data sheet gives 1,320 hrs in a humidity cabinet (ASTM D1748).
Is this the thin-film or the Heavy Duty formula?
It is standard CorrosionX, the thin-film formulation. Heavy Duty is the thickened-film version and XD is the medium-build version between the two.
Which metals is CorrosionX compatible with?
The manufacturer lists iron, steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and bronze.
