Selecting the right option
The standard formulation, which the SDS classes as an extremely flammable aerosol, is CRC 5-56 Multi-Purpose Lubricant. For marine use see CRC 5-56 Marine Multi-Purpose Oil 300g. Each product has its own hazard classification, so check the safety data sheet for the one you choose.
Using it
Hold the can 30 cm from the surface and spray liberally.
For greater penetration let it soak in before working on the part, then wipe away excess with a clean cloth.
For flooded engines spray all electrics and leads liberally.
When cleaning painted surfaces test a small area first for colour fastness. Avoid inhalation and use in well ventilated areas.
Storage and handling
Protect from sunlight and do not expose to temperatures above 50 °C. Do not pierce or burn the can, even when empty. Keep away from open flames and hot surfaces.
Limits and safety
SDS classification: signal word Warning. Pressurised container: may burst if heated (H229). Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H412). Transport class UN 1950, Aerosols, Class 2.2. The safety data sheet still says to keep it away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources, so do not treat it as suitable near ignition sources. Avoid inhalation and use in well ventilated areas. Incompatible with oxidising agents (for example hypochlorites) and acids (for example nitric acid). Read the safety data sheet before use.
