Sutton 2-flute slot drills cut keyways, slots, and profiles in metals on milling machines and machining centres. The 2-flute geometry allows plunging directly into the workpiece — something a standard endmill cannot do. Available in 8% cobalt HSS for improved heat resistance.

Where this product is used

Used for keyway cutting, slot milling, and 2D profiling in engineering workshops and toolroom environments.

• Cutting keyways in shafts, hubs, and flanges on manual and CNC milling machines in production and toolroom environments.
• Full-width slot milling, groove cutting, and pocketing in mild steel, aluminium, and non-ferrous metals where plunging directly into material is required.
• Profile milling and die-sink operations in tool steel and engineering alloys using the cobalt-grade slot drill series.

Selecting the right option

2-flute slot drills plunge and slot; 4-flute endmills finish profiles and pockets better but cannot plunge. Choose short-series for stiffness and reduced vibration in finishing cuts; long-series where access or depth requires it. Upgrade to cobalt grade for hardened steel, stainless, or high-alloy applications.
