F40 Flexible Tyre Coupling Flange (F) Half, Taper Lock 1008 Bush
Available
Flange (F) halves for flexible tyre couplings, taper lock, in sizes F40 to F220. Flexible tyre couplings join two flanges with a rubber tyre. The tyre is torsionally soft, so the coupling takes up large amounts of shock loading and backlash, and it allows for both parallel and axial misalignment. It compensates for misalignment of up to 4° angular, 6 mm parallel and 8 mm axial, and it gives torsional flexibility of up to 12° at maximum torque.
Each half has a tapered bore that takes a taper lock bush. The bush is machined to your shaft size and keyway, and it clamps the half to the shaft when its screws are tightened. Bushes are sold separately, and the bush series for each size is listed below. The tyre is sold separately.

Selecting and fitting
Choose the size from the power at the running speed, or from the torque. The rated power rises in proportion to speed, so multiply the kW at 100 rpm by the speed in rpm and divide by 100 to estimate the rating at your speed. Apply a service factor for the type of machine, and check the shaft sizes against the bore range.
This listing is the flange (F) half. The hub (H) half is Flexible Tyre Coupling Half Hub Taperlock Bush, and the pilot bore flange half is Flexible Tyre Coupling Half Flange Pilot Bore.
Each coupling needs two flange halves and one tyre. Tyres are on Flexible Tyre Coupling Tyre, Synthetic and Flexible Coupling, FRAS Fire Resistant.
Bushes are on Metric Taper Lock Bushes, Cast Iron and Imperial Taper Lock Bushes, Cast Iron.
Isolate the drive before working on the coupling, and replace a cracked or worn tyre. Align the two shafts as closely as you can before fitting the coupling, and check the alignment again once the coupling is fitted. Good alignment gives the longest life, whatever the coupling type.
Dimensions are as listed in the manufacturer catalogue and are for reference. Contact AIMS to confirm a measurement if it is critical to your application.
