FYH HE306 Adapter Sleeve, 1 in Bore, Lock Nut and Washer, Imperial

The FYH HE300 series is an imperial adapter sleeve (also spelt adaptor sleeve) for mounting a tapered bore bearing on a plain inch shaft. This page has 15 sizes for shaft diameters from 1 in to 4 in, HE306 to HE322. Choose the size from the Bore (inch) drop-down.

For the same shaft size and lock nut, the HE300 series sleeve is shorter than the HE2300 series: the HE306 has an overall length (B1) of 31 mm against 38 mm for the HE2306, and the HE318 is 65 mm against 86 mm for the HE2318. Each adapter is a slotted sleeve with a lock nut and a lock washer. The bearing and the adapter are separate items, so order both.

B1 is the overall length of the sleeve with its lock nut, B2 is the lock nut width and d2 is the lock nut outside diameter. Inch values are in brackets. A dash means the catalogue table has no figure for that size under that model number (HE307, HE312, HE319, HE320, HE322); contact AIMS for the dimensions and mass. The catalogue gives no lock nut or washer number for HE318.

Selecting the right option

Choose by shaft diameter and by the sleeve number your bearing needs. HE300 sleeves are shorter than the HE2300 series for the same shaft size, so they suit bearings specified for the shorter sleeve.

For UK200, UKX00 and UK300 inserts the catalogue pairs the HE2300 series. If you are fitting a UK insert, check the combination with AIMS before ordering a HE300 sleeve.

HE318 and HE319 both have a 3-1/4 in bore: choose by model number.

HE307 (1-1/8 in) and HE312 (2-1/8 in) are not shown in the catalogue table under these model numbers, so their dimensions are not listed here; HE319, HE320 and HE322 are also beyond the catalogue table. Contact AIMS to confirm them before ordering.

Fitting and use

Shaft: check the shaft for bends, burrs and other flaws before fitting. A looser shaft fit is allowable with an adapter sleeve: the recommended shaft tolerance is h8 or h9.

Fitting: slide the adapter sleeve onto the shaft at the bearing position; if it is too tight, open the slot with a screwdriver. Slide the bearing onto the sleeve, place a cylindrical reinforcing ring against the front face of the inner ring, and seat the sleeve by tapping lightly around its back. Fit the lock washer with its tab in the sleeve slot, then screw the lock nut on by hand with the tapered side facing the bearing. Secure the housing, tighten the lock nut with a torque wrench to the specified torque, bend one washer tab into a slot in the nut, and turn the shaft by hand to confirm it rotates freely.

Tightening: a lock nut that is too loose lets the sleeve slip, which wears the shaft and the bearing. A lock nut that is too tight expands the inner ring and reduces the internal clearance, which can cause overheating and early failure. Contact AIMS for the lock nut torque for your bearing and size.
