KCP G20 Gear Coupling Flanged Sleeve 1010, 1,139 Nm
Available
The flanged sleeve carries the internal gear teeth of the KCP G20 gear coupling, in sizes 1010 to 1070. The teeth mesh with the crowned external teeth of the crown gear hub, which gives a larger contact area and lowers the stress on the teeth. The coupling takes up parallel and angular misalignment and end float.
The concave and convex flange design makes the coupling easy to assemble, and the gasket between the flanges stops the lubricant leaking. A double engagement coupling uses two crown gear hubs, two flanged sleeves and one seal kit. A single engagement coupling, which takes up angular misalignment only and does not allow for parallel misalignment, uses one crown gear hub, one rigid hub, one flanged sleeve and one seal kit.

Weight is the catalogue coupling weight for the size. The Model Details for each size give the full dimensions in millimetres, with the catalogue inch value in brackets.
Selecting the right option
To size the coupling, work out the design torque. In metric terms this is roughly 9,550 x kW / rpm x service factor, in Nm (the catalogue gives 97,400 x kW / rpm x service factor in kg-cm, or 71,620 x hp / rpm x service factor). Use the lowest operating speed of the application. Where the drive runs in continuous reverse, runs intermittently, sees frequent peak loads or has high inertia, the catalogue says to multiply the calculated design torque by 1.5.
Choose the size whose torque rating is equal to or above the design torque, then check the allowable speed and compare the shaft diameters with the maximum bore of that size. If the bore is not suitable, select the next larger size. Gear couplings are not recommended for low load, light weight applications.
The parts for this coupling are listed separately on the AIMS site: G20 crown gear hub, G20 rigid hub and G20 seal kit. The catalogue page for this product, with the full dimension table, can be downloaded from the Catalogue section of this page.
Fitting and use
Fitting steps for sizes up to 1060: machine the hub bore and keyway accurately, clean all parts and grease the crowned gear teeth and O-ring, put the O-ring onto the shaft, place the flanged sleeves on the shafts and mount the hubs, and set the gap between the hubs to the normal gap with a spacer bar. Align the shafts with a straight bar every 90 degrees and check with a dial gauge that the offset limit is not exceeded. Fit the gasket between the flanged sleeves, fasten the bolts with the lube plug at 90 degrees, and fill with grease until it overflows from the opposite plug hole.
Catalogue dimensions are reference only. Contact AIMS to confirm actual measurement if a specific dimension is critical to your application.
