IKO PHSB-4L Rod End Bearing, Female Thread 0.2500-28UNF, Left Hand, 1/4 in Bore

PHSB is the lubrication type, insert type PILLOBALL rod end: a spherical inner ring, chromium plated after heat treatment and grinding, runs in an inserted bushing of special copper alloy with superior run-in properties, inside a body with a zinc chromate treated outer surface. It has superior anti-wear and anti-corrosion properties and high rigidity, and it takes a large radial load and a bi-directional axial load at the same time.

PHSB is the inch series with a female thread in the body (unified inch thread S, class 3B). The L in the part number marks a left-hand thread: every part number on this page ends in L.

Selecting the right option

The drop-down is the bore of the inner ring in inches. The size number in the part number is the bore in sixteenths of an inch: PHSB-10L is the 10/16 in = 15.875 mm bore. The Model Details give the exact bore in mm and inches.

Size 3 is the 3/16 in size code, but its bore is 4.826 mm (0.1900 in), a little larger than 3/16 in (4.763 mm). Sizes 4 and larger have bores of exactly size/16 in.

A female thread takes a threaded rod or stud. The recommended tightening depth of the screw into the body is 1.25 times the nominal thread diameter or more.

Oil hole and grease nipple details for the inch series are not given, so none is described here. Ask AIMS if this matters for your application.

The PHSB series is sized to unified inch threads (UNC and UNF); the Model Details give the thread of each size.

Fitting and use

Lubrication type PILLOBALL rod ends are not supplied with prepacked grease. Lubricate them before use: operating without lubrication increases the wear of the sliding surfaces and can cause seizure.

The recommended bushing load is up to 0.3 x Cd for a constant load and up to 0.6 x Cd for an alternate load, and the static load capacity Cs must also be considered (0.3 x Cs for a constant load and 0.2 x Cs for an alternate load). Where an axial load is added to a radial load, the body is also stressed in bending.

The equivalent radial load is P = Fr + Y x Fa, where Y is 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for an Fa/Fr of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5; an Fa/Fr above 0.5 is marked unusable.

The allowable tilting angle depends on the mounting structure: the Model Details give α1 and α2 for each size. The maximum allowable temperature of the insert type is +180 °C, and the dynamic load capacity is multiplied by a temperature factor ft (1 up to +150 °C, 0.7 from +150 to +180 °C).

Cd is the dynamic load capacity, based on the contact pressure on the sliding surface and used to calculate life, and Cs is the static load capacity.
