KCM 40SS-2 ASA Stainless Steel Roller Chain Duplex, 1/2 in Pitch, 10 ft Box
Available
ASA stainless steel duplex roller chain from KCM. Made entirely of SUS304 (18Cr-8Ni) austenitic stainless steel.
AIMS Industrial supplies it in boxed lengths of 10 ft (3.05 m). This listing covers 2 sizes (40SS and 60SS). KCM's published dimensions and strength figures for each size are in the table below.
Where this product is used
- Corrosive environments
- Hot environments and areas that need clean chain

Selecting the right option
For ASA chain the number is the pitch in eighths of an inch: 40 is 4/8 in (1/2 in), 60 is 6/8 in (3/4 in), 100 is 10/8 in (1-1/4 in). The figure after the dash is the number of strands.
Choose stainless steel chain where corrosion, heat or cleanliness rules out carbon steel. KCM publishes a maximum allowable load only, and it is far lower than the same-size steel chain (for example 0.44 kN against 3.63 kN for size 40), so size the chain on that figure. KCM also lists a strengthened AS stainless chain with a maximum allowable load 1.5 times that of standard SS.
Fitting and use
Tensile strength is the load at which the chain breaks in one pull and is not a working load. Use the maximum allowable load for working loads and choose chain with the selection method in the KCM catalogue.
KCM's replacement guideline, based on measured elongation, is 1.5% where the larger sprocket has 60 teeth or fewer, 1.2% for 61 to 80 teeth, 1.0% for 81 to 100 teeth and 0.8% for 101 or more, where take-up is possible. With fixed shaft centres it is 0.5% to 0.7%.
Insufficient lubrication promotes wear of pins and bushings, which leads to elongation. KCM says to lubricate the clearances between inner and outer links and between the rollers and inner links.
KCM says not to replace damaged parts of a chain with new ones. Replace the whole chain, and check the sprockets when changing chain.
Check that a safety cover is fitted before running a chain drive.
