The Maun metric wad punch set is a hollow punch kit for cutting clean holes and shapes in soft materials such as felt, rubber, leather, plastic and cork. Nine punches (5, 6, 8, 10, 12.5, 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm) screw onto one 150 mm handle with a spring-loaded centre punch, and the set comes in a lightweight polypropylene storage box (manufacturer-stated).
The spring-loaded plunger centres the hole and ejects the slug. The punches are ground to a fine cutting edge, then hardened and tempered to HRC 45, and the centre punch is case hardened to HRC 57. The handle and punches are chemically blackened. To use it, screw a punch onto the handle, centre the hole on the plunger and strike the handle with a hammer or mallet, using a wooden block as an anvil (manufacturer-stated).
