M6 x 30 mm Hex Coach Screw, 316 Stainless Steel - XCSA4M6X30
Available
Made in 316 (A4) stainless steel, the Metric Hex Head Coach Screw is a hex head screw with a coarse timber thread and a gimlet or pointed tip. It screws directly into timber and is tightened with a spanner or socket.
Supplied in 316 (A4) stainless steel. The molybdenum in A4 gives better resistance to chlorides than A2 (304), so it is the usual choice near the coast, around pools and in marine and food-processing environments. Metric sizes are written M followed by the nominal thread diameter in millimetres, so M10 is a 10 mm thread.
This listing has 32 variants covering sizes M6 to M12 x 130 and lengths 30 mm to 150 mm. Variants are supplied in packs of 25 to 100, depending on size.
Austenitic stainless steel is generally non-magnetic, although cold-worked parts can show weak magnetism. Stainless threads can gall (seize) when tightened under load or at speed. A smear of anti-seize on the thread and a steady tightening speed reduce the risk.

Selecting the right option
Pre-drill a pilot hole sized to the screw diameter and the timber species, especially in hardwood, to avoid splitting and to reduce the risk of the stainless screw seizing or snapping. Use a washer under the head on softer timber.
