The Safra Premium Aluminium MIG Wire is a precision layer wound, double diamond shaved wire for MIG welding aluminium, supplied on 6 kg spools in three alloys: ER4043, ER5183 and ER5356 (AWS A5.10, manufacturer-stated). Pick the alloy first, then the diameter.

ER4043 is a silicon alloy with good fluidity and a reduced cracking tendency, used on alloy casting repairs, scaffold fabrication and food processing equipment. ER5183 suits work needing sea water corrosion resistance and higher strength. ER5356 is a 5% magnesium alloy for general fabrication, bullbars and rollbars, and boat building.

Selecting the right option

Match the alloy to the base metal and the service the weld will see: 4043 for castings and general repair, 5183 where sea water corrosion resistance or higher strength is needed, and 5356 for general 5000 series fabrication. Then choose the diameter to suit the material thickness and your wire feed system. Aluminium wire is soft, so feed it through a spool gun or push-pull gun for the best results.
