Sutton M4181270 1/2"-12 BSW Button Die 1" OD - Carbon Alloy Steel

The Sutton M418 is a carbon alloy steel button die for cutting a new male (external) BSW (British Standard Whitworth) thread on studs. It is a solid round die, 1" (25.4 mm) OD, in 7 sizes, 1/8" to 1/2", that fits into an adjustable guide or plain die stock handle.

Made from carbon alloy steel. Carbon alloy steel threading tools are not suitable for precision, safety or critical threads: they are for general purpose and DIY use only. The cutting teeth provide a general purpose thread. Applications include DIY, trade, automotive, plumbing, metalworking and MRO work.

Match the die OD (1") to your die holder or die stock.

Using the button die

• Use a guide or die stock that matches the 1" OD of the die.
• Chamfer the end of the stud or rod and start the die square, turning forward and backing off regularly to break the chip.
• Use a cutting fluid suited to the material being threaded.
• Use for general purpose and DIY threads only.
