The 40° left-hand spiral with right-hand cutting curls and carries the chips forward of the tap, like a gun tap, and the helical flutes keep the thread pitch where another hole crosses the tapped hole. It suits through holes, including interrupted holes. The N designation is for normal, general purpose materials, with a normal rake angle and normal thread relief. The chamfer is Form C (2.5 x P), generally for blind holes.
The thread tolerance is ISO 2 / 6H. The tap is built to DIN 371: reinforced shank with square drive.
