The Sutton T217 is a spiral flute tap (R10 spiral, Ni designation) for metric coarse (M) threads, made from powder metallurgy, 8% cobalt high speed steel (PM-HSS Co) with a TiCN coating. This listing covers 6 sizes from M3 x 0.5 to M10 x 1.5.
The 10° right-hand spiral flute suits blind holes in tough, short chipping materials, up to 1.5 x D in depth. The slow helix does not transport chips well, so it has no advantage in soft or long chipping materials, especially deeper than 1.5 x d1. The chamfer is Form C (3 x P), generally for blind holes.
The thread tolerance is 6HX. The tap is built to DIN 371: reinforced shank with square drive.
