Thor TH952 Black Rubber Mallet, 310 g, 54 mm Face, Wood Handle

Thor black rubber mallets with wooden handles come in four sizes, TH952, TH953, TH954 and TH957: from 310 g (0.7 lb) with a 54 mm face to 1200 g (2.6 lb) with a 90 mm face. Each has a one-piece rubber head on a self-locking handle (manufacturer-stated).

Thor says the black rubber head gives a gentle but firm blow with little rebound (manufacturer-stated). The wooden-handle versions are lighter than the fibreglass-handle versions of the same size, for example 550 g for TH953 against 675 g for TH953FG.

Common specifications

Key specifications

Weights, face diameters and lengths are from the Thor Product Brochure 2022 (p9), which gives the same weights as the 2017 range for these four part numbers.

Selecting the right option

The four sizes step up together in face diameter, weight and length: TH952 (54 mm face, 310 g, 320 mm long) for light work through to TH957 (90 mm face, 1200 g, 380 mm long). Pick the face to suit the work and the weight you are comfortable swinging. TH954 and TH957 are both 380 mm long, so the difference between them is head size and weight. Thor also lists these four sizes with fibreglass handles and in white rubber (see below). Any striking tool carries some risk, so take care to prevent injury to yourself and damage to the work.
