A chain tensioner sits on the slack side of a roller chain drive and takes up the slack as the chain wears and lengthens. The semi-circular profile model is matched to triplex chain and is supplied in high tension as standard.

Spring force

Spring force ranges are over the 40 mm stroke. The tensioner is supplied in high tension unless low tension is specified. Contact AIMS to confirm the number of springs for your model.

Selecting the right option

Choose the tensioner by chain size and number of strands. The model must match your chain, so check the chain number on the sprocket or chain before ordering. This range is for triplex chain only.

This model is the high-tension version, which is the standard setting. A low-tension version is also made. Contact AIMS if the drive needs a lower tension.

Fitting and use

Follow the manufacturer mounting steps: pre-load the tensioner, position it under the chain as close as possible to the drive sprocket on the slack side, and fix it in place once the arms sit equidistant from the chain. Then release the pre-load. On a drive that reverses, fit one tensioner on each strand.

Fit the tensioner on the slack side of the chain with the profile bearing on the chain. Set the position so the tensioner has movement available in both directions as the chain wears.

Check the chain tension and the wear on the tensioner at regular maintenance intervals. Replace the chain when the take-up is used up. Contact AIMS if you need help with tension for a specific drive.
