D-1 Universal Joint, D Type Pin & Block, 6 mm Max Bore

D type universal joints with a pin and block design and a blank bore, in sizes D-1 to D-14. A universal joint connects two shafts that are inclined to each other and transmits rotary motion between them. It is made of a pair of hinges located close together and connected by a cross shaft.

The D type is a multi-purpose industrial joint. The bore is blank, so you can bore it to any diameter up to the maximum for the size, or cut the square or hex hole listed for the size. The table below lists bore limits, static breaking torque and dimensions for every size.

Selecting and fitting

The torque listed is the static breaking torque, which is the torque at which the joint fails. It is not a working rating, so choose a joint with a breaking torque well above the working torque and allow for shock loads and the angle the joint runs at. C and E are the bore depths. Weights are approximate and for a solid (unbored) joint.

There is no D-9 size in the catalogue. Contact AIMS if you need a joint with a keyway bore or a specific hole size.

To disassemble the joint, push out the pin that does not have the grease nipple. Grease the joint at regular intervals through the nipple.
