Beaver 3S Overload Protected Chain Block, 10 t, 3 m Lift (508603)
Available
The Beaver overload protected 3S industrial manual chain block, code 508603, has a rated capacity of 10 t (10000 kg), 4 load chain falls and a 3 m standard lift, and an orange colour code (manufacturer-stated). Beaver lists overload protection on these blocks for added safety (manufacturer-stated).
Beaver says its 3S chain blocks are designed for use on monorails, jibs, fixed installations and for maintenance use, and are to be used for vertical lifts only. If a block is side loaded or used horizontally, Beaver says the load chain may jam and the block may be damaged (manufacturer-stated).
Beaver states the blocks comply with AS 1418.2 (manufacturer-stated). Its website writes the standard as AS/NZS 1418.2. Beaver says every block is operationally tested to its rated capacity and supplied with a Beaver test certificate that relates to the stamped identification side plate, and that each block has its own serial number that relates to the test certificate (manufacturer-stated). Beaver publishes no proof load or breaking load for these blocks. Lifting equipment must be used within its marked working load limit (WLL), inspected before each use, and selected and used in line with your site lifting procedure and the relevant Australian Standards. If you are unsure what suits your lift, contact AIMS or a qualified rigger before ordering.
Where this product is used
- Vertical lifts on monorails, jibs and fixed installations, as Beaver describes the blocks (manufacturer-stated)
- Maintenance lifting, as Beaver describes the blocks (manufacturer-stated)
- Mining, rigging and construction, general purpose, industrial and mechanical use, as Beaver lists them (manufacturer-stated)

- Grade 80 load chain with a black oxide coating, calibrated and marked to ISO 3077 and ISO 1834 (manufacturer-stated)
- Forged alloy steel top and bottom hooks with ball bearings, so the hooks rotate under load, and latches or safety catches (manufacturer-stated)
- Overload protection for added safety (manufacturer-stated)
- Weston type friction braking system with twin synchronised pawls (manufacturer-stated)
- Colour coded to match international lifting standards for fast identification of the WLL (manufacturer-stated)
- Each block tested to its rated capacity and supplied with a Beaver test certificate (manufacturer-stated)
- Stainless steel ID plates and rivets, with a QR code on the ID tag (manufacturer-stated)
- Spare parts range available, with repair and re-testing to Australian Standard specifications (manufacturer-stated)
Overload protection
Beaver lists overload protection on these blocks for added safety and its manual lists an overload protection assembly (a locking nut, brake set ring, friction disc and brake set, among other parts) in the spare parts list, and its data sheet marks overload protection as optional (manufacturer-stated). Beaver does not publish the load at which the overload protection operates, so do not treat it as an allowance above the rated capacity.
Underground mining
Beaver describes the stainless steel ID plates and rivets as avoiding dangerous sparking and says this makes the blocks suited to underground mining (manufacturer-stated). Confirm your site's requirements for equipment used underground before ordering.
Key specifications
| Code | Rated capacity (kg) | Colour | Standard lift (m) | Load chain falls | Effort (N) | Load chain (mm) | Headroom H (mm) | A | B | C | Net weight (kg) | Extra weight per m of extra lift (kg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 508603 | 10000 | Orange | 3 | 4 | 380 | 9 x 30 | 765 | 189 | 463 | 57 | 78.5 | 8.8 |
Codes, capacities, lift, effort, headroom, dimensions (in millimetres), weights and extra weight per metre are from Beaver's Materials Handling Technical Manual (Vol. 4) and Beaver's data sheets and website. Beaver does not define dimensions A to C. Beaver's data sheet gives the effort on the hand chain to lift a full load in newtons (N), while its website and manual table headings say kg. The data sheet unit, newtons, is used here.
Selecting the right option
Choose the rated capacity to suit the heaviest load, allowing for the weight of rigging such as slings and shackles, then the standard lift to suit the height you need. Check the headroom H against the space between your hook point and the load at its lowest, and the effort on the hand chain against the people available. If you are unsure, ask AIMS or a qualified rigger.
