CRC Hot Shot Degreaser 500g Aerosol
Available
CRC Hot Shot Degreaser is a highly concentrated, self-emulsifying solvent degreaser. CRC's data sheet says it quickly dissolves grease, oil and dirt, and cleans iron, steel, aluminium, magnesium and copper.
It is supplied as a 500g aerosol with a 360 degree valve. You spray it on, let it soak, then rinse it off with water. CRC's data sheet describes it as not harmful to metal, rubber, plastic or concrete.

Selecting the right option
Hot Shot is a solvent-based aerosol that is classified as extremely flammable. For other CRC degreasers see CRC Aeroclean Degreaser 400g or CRC NF Aeroclean Degreaser 400g Aerosol - Pack of 6, and check each product's safety data sheet for its flammability classification.
Using it
CRC's directions: provide adequate ventilation. For engines, warm the engine up for easier cleaning and turn it off, remove the air filter, and protect the carburettor and distributor.
Shake the can thoroughly; it should be at room temperature before spraying. Hold the can 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 cm) from the surface and apply an even coat.
Allow to soak 10 to 20 minutes depending on soil build-up, and repeat if required. Rinse with a strong jet of water. For engines, idle the engine to dry.
Storage and handling
Do not puncture, incinerate or store above 50 °C. Keep out of direct sunlight and away from heat. The SDS adds: store cool, dry and well ventilated, away from incompatible materials, ignition sources and foodstuffs.
Limits and safety
Danger. Extremely flammable aerosol (H222). Pressurised container: may burst if heated (H229). May cause drowsiness or dizziness (H336). Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (H372). UN 1950, Class 2.1. Keep away from heat and ignition sources. CRC's data sheet warns that aerosol cans conduct electricity: keep away from live electrical sources, including battery terminals, solenoids and electrical panels. The SDS lists oxidising agents (for example hypochlorites), acids (for example nitric acid) and alkalis (for example sodium hydroxide) as incompatible. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
Is CRC Hot Shot Degreaser flammable?
Yes. The SDS classifies it as an extremely flammable aerosol (H222), UN 1950, Class 2.1, with the signal word Danger. Keep it away from heat and ignition sources.
What is the flash point of CRC Hot Shot Degreaser?
The SDS (revision 2.6) gives below 0 °C for the propellant and 38 °C for the liquid. Other CRC documents print a different figure, so this page uses the SDS.
Can Hot Shot Degreaser be rinsed off with water?
Yes. CRC's data sheet says it rinses off easily with water, and the directions say to rinse with a strong jet of water.
Which metals does Hot Shot Degreaser clean?
CRC's data sheet lists iron, steel, aluminium, magnesium and copper, and says it is not harmful to metal, rubber, plastic or concrete.
How long should Hot Shot Degreaser soak?
CRC's directions say to allow it to soak 10 to 20 minutes depending on soil build-up, then repeat if required.
Can I spray Hot Shot near electrical equipment?
CRC's data sheet says aerosol cans will conduct electricity and to keep them away from live electrical sources such as battery terminals, solenoids and electrical panels.
