CRC Lectra Clean Electric Motor & Equipment Cleaner TCE Free 4L
Available
CRC Lectra Clean is a non-flammable, heavy-duty evaporating cleaner and degreaser for electric motors and other heavy-duty electrical and mechanical equipment. CRC describes it as a stabilised, fast-acting solvent blend with no flash point.
CRC's data sheet says it evaporates rapidly and completely, leaves no residue and needs no rinsing or wiping. It contains no lubricants, silicones or oils. This listing is the 4L drum; CRC's page describes it as trichloroethylene-free, and the safety data sheet lists tetrachloroethylene and dichloromethane as the main ingredients.

Selecting the right option
Lectra Clean is also sold in other formats; see CRC Aerosol Lectra Clean Electric Motor & Equipment Cleaner 400g for the aerosol and CRC Lectra Clean Heavy Duty Electrical Parts Degreaser 20L for the 20L pack. Check each format's safety data sheet, as the hazards depend on the formulation.
Using it
CRC's directions: remove access plates and scrape off heavy deposits. Apply liberally and let it run off, then air dry or wipe with a soft cloth. Repeat if needed.
Test on a small area first, as it may harm some plastics.
The current CRC data sheet (version 05/2026) says it can be used on energised equipment and for cleaning low-voltage motors and equipment while in operation. Older CRC data sheets said the opposite, so confirm the isolation requirements for your site and read the safety data sheet before spraying near live equipment.
Storage and handling
CRC's precautions: store in a well-ventilated place, keep cool, keep the container tightly closed and store locked up.
Limits and safety
Warning. Causes skin irritation (H315). Causes serious eye irritation (H319). May cause drowsiness or dizziness (H336). Suspected of causing cancer (H351). Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H411). UN 1897, Tetrachloroethylene, Class 6.1, packing group III; marine pollutant. 'TCE free' means no trichloroethylene: the SDS ingredients are tetrachloroethylene and dichloromethane, which the SDS notes are IARC Group 2A. CRC's data sheet warns it may harm some plastics. The SDS lists oxidising agents (for example hypochlorites), acids (for example nitric acid), alkalis (for example sodium hydroxide), metals, heat and ignition sources as incompatible. CRC's current data sheet (version 05/2026) also warns that it may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways: if swallowed, call a Poison Centre or doctor immediately and do not induce vomiting. The SDS does not list this as a classification, so follow the stricter warning. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
Is CRC Lectra Clean 4L flammable?
No. CRC describes it as non-flammable with no flash point, and the SDS lists flammability as non flammable. It is still classified as hazardous for health and the environment.
Does CRC Lectra Clean contain trichloroethylene?
CRC's product page describes it as trichloroethylene-free. The SDS lists tetrachloroethylene (over 60 %) and dichloromethane (10 to 30 %).
Is CRC Lectra Clean hazardous to health?
Yes. The SDS carries the signal word Warning, with skin and eye irritation, drowsiness or dizziness, and suspected of causing cancer (H351). It is also toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. CRC's current data sheet also says it may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways.
Can Lectra Clean be used on live electrical equipment?
CRC's current data sheet (version 05/2026) says it can be used on energised equipment and for low-voltage motors in operation. Older data sheets advised against it, so check the current data sheet and your site's isolation rules.
Does Lectra Clean need rinsing or wiping?
No. CRC's data sheet says it evaporates rapidly and completely, leaves no residue and needs no rinsing or wiping.
What is the dielectric strength of CRC Lectra Clean?
CRC's data sheet gives 36,700 volts by ASTM D-877.
