GE28 Curved Jaw Coupling Flange Half, Taper Lock 1108 Bush

Flange halves for curved jaw couplings, taper lock, in sizes GE28 to GE90. The hub type is F. Curved jaw couplings join two shafts with a hub on each shaft and a flexible element between the curved jaws. The element absorbs shock and vibration, and takes up a small amount of misalignment between the shafts. Elements come in two hardnesses, 92 Shore A (yellow) and 98 Shore A (red), and the red element is rated for more torque in every size.

Each half has a tapered bore that takes a taper lock bush. The bush is machined to your shaft size and keyway, and it clamps the hub to the shaft when its screws are tightened. Bushes are sold separately. The bush series and maximum bore for each size are listed below. The elements are sold separately.

Selecting and fitting

Choose the size from the torque you need to transmit and the shaft sizes. Use the rated torque for the element you want: the yellow 92 Shore A element or the red 98 Shore A element. Then choose the taper lock bush. The bush series in the table is the series that fits that half, and the maximum bore is the largest shaft the bush takes. Bushes are on Metric Taper Lock Bushes, Cast Iron and Imperial Taper Lock Bushes, Cast Iron.

Each coupling needs two halves and one element, sold as Curved Jaw Coupling Red/Yellow Shore Element. The hub half is Curved Jaw Coupling Hub Half, Taper Lock.

Fit the bush in the hub, slide the assembly onto the shaft and tighten the bush screws evenly to the bush manufacturer's torque. Align the two shafts as closely as you can before fitting the coupling, and check the alignment again once the coupling is fitted. Good alignment gives the longest life, whatever the coupling type.
