Dixon M1 1/2" Boss Hose Mender, Plated Steel

This Dixon hose mender is the Boss hose joiner: a collar that joins two lengths of hose of the same inside diameter, or repairs a hose by joining the two good ends. It is made for use with Boss clamps (manufacturer-stated). Dixon lists eight sizes, from M1 for 1/2" to M36 for 3".
M1 is plated steel and M6 to M36 are plated malleable iron (manufacturer-stated). The collar is fitted with a Boss clamp over the hose at each end, and Dixon lists the clamps separately.

Millimetre sizes are from Dixon's Boss catalogue and match the store size options. Dixon's main product catalogue prints M1 as 12 mm and M36 as 80 mm, so use the inch size to confirm the fit.
Selecting the right option
Match the mender to the hose inside diameter. Fit one Boss clamp over the hose at each end of the mender; the Boss 2-bolt clamp pages linked below give the hose outside diameter ranges and bolt torques. Dixon states that Boss clamps are for single use and need periodic retightening (manufacturer-stated).
