The Lag Eye Screw, 316 Stainless Steel is a screw with a coarse timber thread and a closed eye in place of a head. It screws directly into timber and gives a fixed eye for rope, cable or wire.

The A4 (316) grade is stainless steel with added molybdenum, which helps it hold up where salt, pool chemicals or washdown chemicals are present. It is the more corrosion-resistant of the two common stainless grades, at a higher cost than 304. Metric sizes are written M followed by the nominal thread diameter in millimetres, so M10 is a 10 mm thread.

In wet conditions, keep stainless steel apart from aluminium and galvanised steel with a washer or sleeve, to reduce the risk of galvanic corrosion.

Selecting the right option

Pre-drill a pilot hole before screwing into hardwood, and make sure the screw is loaded in line with its shank rather than sideways. It is not a lifting point and is not rated for lifting.
