Loctite 268 High Strength Threadlocker Stick 19g

Loctite 268 is a one-component, red, high strength anaerobic threadlocker supplied as a self-feeding stick with a wax consistency. Henkel describes it as a high strength version of an anaerobic threadlocking material.

The stick form suits fasteners where a liquid product would run or be hard to apply. It cures in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces and fluoresces under UV light.

Selecting the right option

Breakloose torque is measured on a fastener pre-torqued to 5 N·m, and breakaway torque on an unseated one, so the two figures are not directly comparable.

Using it

Where hand tools will not work (excessive engagement or diameters over 1 inch), apply localised heat to approximately 250 °C and disassemble while hot.

Cure speed depends on the materials, the gap and the temperature; the cure-speed graphs are in the Henkel data sheet.

Henkel states no operating temperature range for this product. Hot strength is graphed from 0 to 150 °C, and heat ageing at 100, 125 and 150 °C.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry location. Henkel gives 8 °C to 21 °C as the optimal range. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidisers. Not recommended for plastics, particularly thermoplastics. Check compatibility with aqueous washes. Read the safety data sheet before use.
