Loctite 460 is a one-part, low-viscosity alkoxyethyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive. It is a transparent, colourless to straw-coloured liquid that cures with atmospheric humidity.

Henkel describes it as low odour and low blooming, suited to applications where vapour control is difficult. It bonds metals, plastics and elastomers, and porous or absorbent materials such as wood, paper, leather and fabric.

Selecting the right option

For a black, rubber-toughened grade see Loctite 438 Black Toughened Instant Adhesive 25ml; for a thickened gel that does not run on vertical faces see Loctite 454 Instant Adhesive Gel 20g.

Using it

To improve bonding on low energy plastic surfaces, Loctite primer may be applied to the bond area. The Henkel data sheet does not name a primer grade.

Larger bond gaps slow the cure. An activator can speed the cure in large gaps but may reduce final strength; apply the adhesive to one surface only, not to the activated or primed one.

Allow 24 to 72 hours for full strength before applying service loads.

Storage and handling

Store unopened and dry at 2 °C to 8 °C. Storage below 2 °C or above 8 °C can adversely affect product properties. This is colder than the 8 °C to 21 °C range for many Loctite products.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or for chlorine or strong oxidisers. The Henkel data sheet states no operating temperature range. Read the safety data sheet before use.
