Loctite 454 Instant Adhesive Gel 20g

Loctite 454 is a one-part ethyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive in the form of a clear to slightly cloudy, high-viscosity gel. It cures with atmospheric moisture and needs no mixing.

The gel consistency stops the adhesive flowing, even on vertical surfaces. Henkel describes it as designed for assembling difficult-to-bond materials, and publishes fixture and strength data for metals, plastics, rubbers, wood, leather, fabric and paper.

Selecting the right option

Using it

Thin bond lines give fast cure speeds, and increasing the bond gap decreases the cure rate. Henkel advises an activator for large gaps; see Loctite 7452 Cyanoacrylate Accelerator 20g.

To improve bonding on low energy plastic surfaces, Loctite primer may be applied to the bond area.

Curing continues for at least 24 hours before full chemical and solvent resistance develops. Allow full strength to develop before service loads, typically 24 to 72 hours.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry place at 2 °C to 8 °C. Storage below 2 °C or above 8 °C can adversely affect product properties.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. The Henkel data sheet states no operating temperature range; it shows hot-strength and heat-ageing graphs only. Read the safety data sheet before use.
