M3 Nylon Insert Lock Nut, 316 Stainless Steel - XNNA4M3

The Metric Hex Nylon Insert Lock Nut, 316 Stainless Steel is a hex nut with a nylon ring set into the top. The nylon grips the bolt thread and resists loosening from vibration.

A4 (316) stainless steel contains molybdenum (about 2 to 3 per cent), which improves its resistance to chlorides. It is the grade normally chosen for coastal, pool, marine and food-processing settings, and it costs more than A2 (304). Metric sizes are written M followed by the nominal thread diameter in millimetres, so M10 is a 10 mm thread.

Austenitic stainless steel is generally non-magnetic, although cold-worked parts can show weak magnetism. Use stainless washers and nuts with stainless fasteners, so the whole joint is made of the same material.

Selecting the right option

The nylon ring limits the working temperature of the nut, so check the supplier data before using it near heat. A nylon insert nut is normally treated as single-use where a tight lock is needed. The bolt must pass fully through the nylon ring. Use a stainless flat washer.
