The Sutton T118 is a spiral point (gun) tap (VA PM designation, internal coolant) for metric coarse (M) threads, made from powder metallurgy, vanadium grade high speed steel (PM-HSSE V3) with a TiCN coating. This listing covers 4 sizes from M5 x 0.8 to M10 x 1.5.
The gun (spiral point) nose curls the chip forward, ahead of the tap and out of the hole, so chip clogging is avoided and coolant can flow without problems. It suits through holes. The VA PM designation is for stainless and tough steels, with the VA geometry in powder metal high speed steel. The chamfer is Form B (4.5 x P), for through holes in medium and long chipping materials.
The thread tolerance is 6HX. The tap is built to DIN 371: reinforced shank with square drive. The internal coolant duct (IK) delivers coolant through the tap to the cutting zone.
