Choosing a cable lockout
- Reach: measure the distance around the handwheel, handle or group of points you need to lock out, then choose a cable long enough to loop through with a little to spare. Lengths here run from about 0.9m up to 4.5m.
- Adjustable or retractable: adjustable cables are sized to the job and locked off. The retractable models are listed at 2.7m and draw the cable back in when not in use.
- Core material: the retractable models come with a nylon core (yellow) or a steel core (red). Master Lock describes steel core as the heavy duty option and nylon as the lighter one.
