Choosing an electrical lockout
- Match the device to the breaker: check the breaker's width, toggle style and whether it is a miniature (MCB) or a larger breaker. The Brady IEC MCB lockouts come in pin in and pin out styles.
- Universal or specific: universal clamp-on lockouts fit a range of breakers. Narrow and wide MCB lockouts are sized for specific breaker widths.
- Plugs, switches and fuses: use a plug lockout where equipment is isolated at the plug, a wall switch lockout for switches, and the fuse lockout for fuse holders.
- Padlocks: lockout devices are locked off with a padlock. See our padlocks range, and add a hasp if more than one person is locking on.

How do I choose a circuit breaker lockout?

Do I need a padlock as well?

What do the pin in and pin out styles mean?
Brady lists its IEC MCB lockouts as Pin In Standard and Pin Out Standard styles, and Master Lock lists an MCB lockout with pin in toggles. Choose the style that matches how the breaker toggles are shaped, and check the data sheet.
Is a lockout device enough to isolate a circuit?
No. A lockout device is one step in your isolation procedure. Follow your site procedure, confirm the circuit is isolated by the method it requires, and have a licensed electrician carry out the electrical work.
