Choosing a carbide burr
Pick the shape for the job first: cylindrical burrs for flat surfaces and edges, ball burrs for pockets and radii, tree and flame burrs for contours and tight corners, and cone or included angle burrs for chamfers and bevels. Then choose the cut. Double cut burrs break chips smaller and run smoother on steel, aluminium cut burrs have a coarse single-cut form that clears soft material, and finer cuts leave a better finish. Check the shank size against your die grinder collet, and keep the tool speed within the maker's recommended range.
Always check the data sheet. Confirm the shape, shank size, cut and maximum speed suit your tool and material.

Carbide burr FAQs
What is a carbide burr used for?
A carbide burr is a rotary cutting tool used in a die grinder or pendant drill to remove burrs, shape and blend edges, clean up welds and chamfer holes in metal.
What is the difference between single cut and double cut?
Double cut burrs have a cross-cut pattern that breaks chips into smaller pieces, giving smoother cutting and better control on steel. Aluminium cut burrs have a coarser form that clears soft metals without clogging.
Which burr shape should I use?
Cylindrical for flat faces and edges, ball for pockets and radii, tree and flame for contours and corners, and cone or included angle for chamfers. Our range includes each of these shapes.
Do you list burrs for aluminium?
Yes. We list Sutton aluminium cut burrs (B215, B316, B317), Pferd C ALU burrs and a Saber non-ferrous included angle burr.
What shank size do I need?
It has to fit your tool collet. Check the shank size on each listing against your die grinder or drill before ordering.
Can I buy burrs in a set?
Yes. See our carbide burr sets for assorted shapes in a case.
