Choosing face protection
Start with the hazard. A clear, high-impact face shield suits tasks with flying particles and debris, such as grinding and cutting. A shade 5 visor is listed for work where a tinted visor is needed. For tasks that also involve dust or airborne contaminants, a PAPR face shield supplies filtered air to the wearer, so check which filters suit the contaminant.
A face shield is normally worn together with safety glasses rather than instead of them. Check how the shield attaches, as some are headgear-mounted and the Tecmen units fit a bump cap or hard hat. Replacement visors let you swap a scratched visor without replacing the whole shield.
