Choosing a Linishall machine or belt
Start with the belt size your grinder uses, because belts are sized to the machine (for example 915 x 50mm or 1220 x 100mm). Then choose the grit for the job: 40 grit for heavy stock removal, 60 and 80 for general grinding and shaping, and 120 for finer finishing. Buy belts in the size and grit variant you need, or take the mixed grit pack if you want to compare grits on the 915 machines. Isolate the machine before changing a belt, and wear eye and hearing protection while grinding.

What is a linisher?
A linisher is a machine that runs a continuous abrasive belt for grinding, shaping and finishing metal. The belt runs over a contact wheel or a flat platen. Linishall belt grinders in our range include bench mounted, pedestal mounted and heavy duty models.
What belt sizes do you list for Linishall belts?
Our Linishall linishing belts are listed in 915 x 50, 1220 x 50, 1220 x 100, 1520 x 50, 1520 x 100, 2000 x 75, 2000 x 150 and 2000 x 220mm, in 40, 60, 80 and 120 grit. Check the size against your machine before ordering.
What grit should I use?
A coarse grit such as 40 removes stock quickly, 60 and 80 suit general grinding and shaping, and 120 gives a finer finish. Step up through the grits rather than jumping straight from coarse to fine.
Can I add a belt to my bench grinder?
We list a 915 belt grinding attachment (750W, 1HP), a modular belt grinding attachment and a BG8/915 bench grinder that comes with a linishing attachment. Check compatibility with your grinder with us before ordering.
Do you list bench grinders as well as belt grinders?
Yes. The Linishall bench grinders are 150mm (6 inch) 350W, 200mm (8 inch) 750W and 250mm (10 inch) 900W.
When should I replace a linishing belt?
Replace it when it stops cutting freely, takes longer to remove the same material, glazes or runs hot. Replace it straight away if the edges fray or the joint lifts or tears.
Can I buy spare parts for my Linishall machine?
