Machine Tool Accessory Selection — Quick Reference

Machine tool accessories = COLLETS + ARBORS + ADAPTORS + tool holders + ancillary tooling CONNECTING cutting tools to lathes + mills + machining centres. Critical for accurate machining + tool life + production.

Accessory Type Best For
ER Collet (Spring Collet) Tool holding — drill + end mill
Morse Taper Adaptor MT spindle + tool — see Morse taper guide
Drill Chuck (Keyed / Keyless) Drill bit holding
Tool Holder (CAT / BT / HSK) Machining centre tool change
Quick-Change Tool Post (Lathe) Fast tool swap on lathe
Boring Bar Holder Internal turning + boring
Tapping Collet / Tap Holder Tapping operation — see tapping collets
Live Centre / Dead Centre Lathe tailstock workholding
Face Plate / Lathe Chuck Workpiece holding on lathe

Critical: Match accessory to MACHINE SPINDLE — CAT40 / CAT50 / BT30 / BT40 / HSK63 etc. Wrong taper = no fit + damage. Collet capacity + clamp force per spec. Brands: Seco, Maxigear. Companion: machining, machinery, indexable turning.

Machine Tool Accessories for Lathes, Mills and Machining Centres

Machine tool accessories encompass the collets, arbors, adaptors, tool holders, and ancillary tooling that connect cutting tools to machine spindles and extend the capability of lathes, mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centres. AIMS Industrial stocks a broad range of machine tool accessories for engineering workshops, toolrooms, and production facilities — covering the toolholding, workholding, and machine enhancement accessories needed to equip and maintain workshop machinery to a professional standard.

Collets and Collet Chucks

Collets provide high-precision, concentric gripping of cutting tool shanks and workpieces in lathe and milling applications. The collet chuck applies uniform radial clamping force around the full circumference of the shank, providing superior runout accuracy compared to a conventional drill chuck or three-jaw chuck for the same application. ER collets are the most widely used standard in CNC and manual milling — the ER system provides a standard interface between the collet chuck body and a range of collet sizes, allowing the same holder to grip tools from 1mm to over 20mm diameter by changing the collet. Correct collet selection requires matching the collet to both the holder series and the tool shank diameter.

Arbors and Adaptors

Arbors and adaptors create the mechanical interface between the machine spindle and the tool or tooling system. Morse taper arbors transmit the taper shank of twist drills, reamers, and boring heads to the machine spindle taper. Shell mill arbors mount face mills and shell end mills on vertical milling machines. Drill chuck arbors connect drill chucks to milling machine and lathe spindles where the spindle taper does not match the drill chuck fitting. Reducing sleeves allow a smaller Morse taper tool or holder to be used in a larger spindle taper without requiring a separate adaptor for each combination.

Llambrich Drill Chucks

Llambrich is a Spanish manufacturer producing precision drill chucks used in workshop, toolroom, and industrial machinery applications. Llambrich chucks are specified for accurate, concentric gripping and long service life in continuous workshop use. Keyless chucks allow tool changes without a chuck key — practical for drill press work where frequent bit changes are made. Keyed chucks provide more positive clamping for heavier drilling operations where the cutting torque could loosen a keyless chuck if the drill bites or catches.

Noga Deburring and Finishing Tools

Noga produces a comprehensive range of deburring tools, countersinking tools, and edge preparation tools used at the machine to finish components before they leave the workcell. The Noga system's interchangeable blade design covers the range of deburring operations encountered in a machining workshop — external edges, internal bores, cross-holes, and sheet metal edges. Keeping a Noga deburring set at the machine reduces the handling required to finish components after machining and ensures consistent edge quality on every part.
