Choosing a spring washer
Match the washer to the fastener size and to the material of the joint. Metric washers are listed against M sizes and imperial washers against inch sizes. Pick the material for the environment: zinc plated or zinc yellow for indoor and general use, hot-dip galvanised for outdoor work, and 304 or 316 stainless for wet or corrosive conditions, with 316 the usual step up near salt water and chemicals. Use stainless washers with stainless fasteners to avoid mixing metals.
The square and flat section versions differ in the shape of the wire the washer is made from, so check the listing for the dimensions you need. A spring washer is a general purpose anti-loosening aid for light vibration. For severe vibration or safety critical joints, look at Nord-Lock or wedge lock washers. If the surface is soft, a flat washer under the spring washer helps spread the load.
Always check the data sheet. Confirm the size, material and finish suit your fastener and conditions before you order.

Spring washer FAQs
What spring washers does AIMS list?
We list 31 spring washer products: Hobson square and flat section washers, Bremick spring steel washers, Champion washers, kits and refills, a GJ Works kit and Inox World stainless washers, in metric and imperial sizes.
What does a spring washer do?
It keeps spring pressure on a bolted joint, which helps resist loosening under light vibration. It is not a substitute for the right fastener torque, and for severe vibration or safety critical joints you should consider Nord-Lock or wedge lock washers.
Should I use a flat washer with a spring washer?
On a soft or easily marked surface, a flat washer under the spring washer helps spread the load. See our flat round washers.
Do I need 316 stainless spring washers, or is 304 enough?
304 suits general outdoor and indoor use. 316 is the usual choice near salt water, coastal sites and chemicals. Check the material on the listing before you order.
What is the difference between zinc plated and hot-dip galvanised spring washers?
Zinc plated washers suit indoor and general use. Hot-dip galvanised washers have a thicker zinc coating for outdoor work. Check the finish on the listing.
Do you sell spring washer assortment kits?
Yes. We list Champion kits CA1008, CA1840 (stainless), CA2050, CA520 and CA648, the GJ Works GKA933 kit, and Champion refills for each size range.
