A swage fitting is attached to wire rope by pressing, or swaging, a metal sleeve or terminal onto the rope end, which gives a permanent low-profile termination. AIMS Industrial lists 5 swage products: copper and nickel plated wire rope ferrules (swaged sleeves) from Beaver, a nickel plated copper hand swage from Inox World, and right-hand and left-hand 316 stainless steel swage stud terminals from Inox World. Our wire rope guide covers wire rope construction and terminations.

Choosing a swage fitting

Match the fitting to the wire rope diameter first. Ferrules form a pressed eye or dead end on the rope and need a swaging press and the correct die. The stud terminals have a threaded stem that screws into a turnbuckle or other threaded fitting, and a left-hand and right-hand pair lets you adjust the tension of the assembly. For marine and coastal work the stud terminals are listed in 316 stainless steel.

Always check the data sheet. A swaged termination must be made with the correct sleeve, die and tool for the rope. Confirm the rope diameter, working load and installation method before you use a swage fitting, particularly in lifting service.

Swage FAQs

What is a swage fitting?

A swage fitting is a sleeve or terminal that is pressed onto the end of a wire rope to make a permanent termination. The press deforms the fitting onto the rope.

What swage products does AIMS list?

Copper and nickel plated Beaver wire rope ferrules, an Inox World nickel plated copper hand swage, and right-hand and left-hand Inox World 316 stainless steel swage stud terminals.

How do I choose the right size?

Match the fitting to the diameter of the wire rope, and use the correct die and press for that size. Check the size on the product page before ordering.

What is a swage stud terminal used for?

It has a threaded stem that screws into a turnbuckle or other threaded fitting. Using a left-hand and a right-hand terminal together lets you adjust the tension of the rope.

Do you have swage eye, fork or hook terminals?

Not in this collection. Call (02) 9773 0122 and we will check what we can supply.

Can you help me choose a swage fitting?

Yes. Tell us the rope diameter and how the assembly will be used, and we will point you to the right fitting.
