Choosing a timing pulley
Start with the belt. A toothed belt runs on a pulley of the same profile and pitch, so match HTD 3M, 5M, 8M or 14M, T5, T10, XL, L, H or Poly Chain GT to the belt you are using. Then choose the tooth count for your speed ratio, and check the listed belt width range suits the belt.
Taper lock pulleys fit the shaft with a taper lock bush, so check the bush size against your shaft. See taper lock bushes. Pilot bore pulleys are listed with a pilot bore, so allow for finishing the bore to suit your shaft.
Always check the data sheet. Confirm the profile, tooth count, belt width and bore against your belt and shaft before ordering.

What is a timing pulley?
A timing pulley has teeth that engage with a toothed belt, so the belt and pulley run in time. It is also called a toothed or synchronous pulley.
Which timing pulley profile do I need?
It must match the belt profile and pitch. Our Finer range covers HTD 3M, 5M, 8M and 14M, T5, T10 and imperial XL, L and H. Gates Poly Chain GT sprockets are listed in 8M and 14M.
What is the difference between pilot bore and taper lock?
Pilot bore pulleys are supplied with a pilot bore that is finished to suit your shaft. Taper lock pulleys are fitted with a taper lock bush. Both styles are listed in this range.
What tooth counts are available?
It depends on the profile. For example the Finer 8M HTD taper lock pulleys are listed from 22 to 192 teeth and the 14M from 28 to 216 teeth. T5 and T10 pulleys run from 10 to 60 and 12 to 60 teeth. Check each product page for the sizes available.
Do you have stainless steel Poly Chain GT sprockets?
Yes. The Gates 8M stainless steel Poly Chain GT sprocket is listed in taper lock and pilot bore versions.
Do you have imperial timing pulleys?
