Choosing allthread

Start with the thread system of the nut or tapped hole it has to match: metric, UNC or UNF, or BSW, BSF or BA. Then choose the strength and the finish. Class 4.6 is the general purpose steel rod, while Class 8.8 and 10.9 are high tensile. Plain rod suits indoor and protected use, zinc and hot dip galvanised steel add corrosion protection, and stainless gives the most corrosion resistance, with 316 (A4) the higher grade of the two stainless options. Match the nut and washer to the strength of the rod, and for structural or overhead use work from an engineer's specification rather than a catalogue. Our Threaded Rod Guide covers sizes and grades in more detail. Always check the data sheet.

All Thread Rod FAQs

What is the difference between Class 4.6 and Class 8.8 allthread?

Class 4.6 is the general purpose steel rod. Class 8.8 and 10.9 are high tensile. We list Hobson Sampsonrod and Bremick rod in 8.8 and Hobrod in 10.9. Match the nut and washer to the rod, and check the data sheet for the strength you need.

Should I choose galvanised or stainless allthread?

Hot dip galvanised steel allthread is listed in Class 4.6 and 8.8, and stainless is listed in 304 and 316 (A4). Stainless is the more corrosion resistant option, and 316 is the higher grade of the two. Choose by the environment the rod will sit in, or call us and we'll help.

Do you have imperial and left hand allthread?

Yes. Imperial rod is listed in UNC, UNF, BSW, BSF and BA in steel, with stainless in UNC and BSW. Left hand rod is listed in Class 4.6 metric and in BSW. Select the thread form and size on the product page.
