Beaver Polypropylene Film Rope, 4 mm x 300 m Coil, 2.1 kN MBF (347204)
Available
The Beaver polypropylene film rope is a three strand twisted rope, Z twist, UV treated, medium lay, yellow with two black external tracers (manufacturer-stated). This listing carries 14 codes from 4 mm to 32 mm, on 125 m reels or coils of 220 to 300 m (manufacturer-stated). Beaver says it has high strength properties and is very durable and easy to handle, and that it is resistant to oil, petrol, acid, rot, mildew, sunlight and weathering, so it is suitable for exterior use (manufacturer-stated). Beaver states the rope is made to AS 4142.2 (manufacturer-stated).
Beaver describes the rope for tying down loads on cars, trailers and trucks and for farm use, and says it can also be used as an anchor rope, a dinghy mooring line, an interior or exterior clothesline and for general purposes (manufacturer-stated). Beaver supplies it in full coils only (manufacturer-stated). Beaver describes this rope for tying down and general purpose use, not for lifting.
Beaver publishes minimum breaking force (MBF) for this rope, not a working load limit or lashing capacity. MBF is the lowest force at which a new rope of that size is expected to break, so it is not a safe working load. Beaver's general notes on synthetic rope say it breaks without warning, and that knots can fuse together when put under load, so friction between synthetic ropes should be avoided (manufacturer-stated). Do not use this rope to lift or suspend loads.
Where this product is used
- Tying down loads on cars, trailers and trucks, as Beaver describes film rope (manufacturer-stated)
- Farm use (manufacturer-stated)
- Anchor rope, dinghy mooring line, and interior or exterior clothesline, as Beaver describes (manufacturer-stated)
- General purpose use (manufacturer-stated)
Features
- Three strand twisted polypropylene, Z twist, UV treated, medium lay (manufacturer-stated)
- Yellow with two black external tracers (manufacturer-stated)
- High strength properties, durable and easy to handle, per Beaver (manufacturer-stated)
- Resistant to oil, petrol, acid, rot, mildew, sunlight and weathering, per Beaver (manufacturer-stated)
- 14 codes in 11 diameters, 4 mm to 32 mm (manufacturer-stated)
- Made to AS 4142.2 according to Beaver (manufacturer-stated)
Rope care notes from Beaver
- Synthetic rope breaks without warning, even though its breaking strength stays constant when wet (manufacturer-stated)
- Avoid friction or synthetic ropes binding against each other, as knots can fuse together when put under load (manufacturer-stated)
- Rope ends can be heat sealed to prevent the strands unlaying (manufacturer-stated)
Rope material notes from Beaver
- Polypropylene rope floats on water (specific gravity 0.91) and does not lose strength in wet environments (manufacturer-stated)
- Polypropylene softens progressively with a rise in temperature and begins to weaken and melt at 150 degrees C (manufacturer-stated)
- Beaver rates the ultraviolet resistance of polypropylene rope as fair and says it is affected by sunlight deterioration more than any other synthetic (manufacturer-stated)

Figures are from Beaver's Materials Handling Technical Manual (Vol. 4) and data sheets. Beaver lists the 125 m codes ending in A as reels and the others as coils, and the 32 mm coil as 220 m. Beaver also lists film rope in a 22 mm coil and a 12 mm reel, which are not on this page. Beaver publishes no weight and no working load limit.
Selecting the right option
Choose the diameter from the minimum breaking force you need, allowing a margin that suits your load restraint plan, then the length: 125 m reels, 250 m or 300 m coils, or 220 m for the 32 mm. Beaver supplies film rope in full coils only, so each variant is the coil or reel length shown. Polypropylene has only fair UV resistance in Beaver's rating, so inspect rope that stays outdoors for long periods.
