CRC Brakleen Brake & Parts Cleaner 500g

CRC Brakleen is a solvent brake and parts cleaner and degreaser. It is the original brake parts cleaner, formulated to quickly and safely remove brake fluid, grease, oil and other contaminants from brake linings, pads and drums.

It is sold as a 500g aerosol and a 20L bulk liquid. They are different formulations: both contain tetrachloroethylene, and the aerosol also contains dichloromethane. It cleans without disassembly, evaporates fast and leaves no residue.

Choosing the right option

Using it

De-energise equipment before cleaning. Spray liberally (aerosol) or apply liberally (bulk) and allow to run off. Repeat if necessary.

The 500g aerosol has an extension tube for hard-to-reach areas.

Protect rubber parts and painted surfaces from overspray. Test on a small area first, as it may be harmful to some plastics.

Brake units can be cleaned without disassembly.

Storage and handling

Store in a well-ventilated place, keep cool, keep the container tightly closed, store locked up and protect from sunlight. Do not expose the aerosol to temperatures exceeding 50 °C.

Limits and safety

DANGER on both formats. Suspected of causing cancer. Causes skin irritation (the 400g aerosol also causes serious eye irritation; the 20L may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways). May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (very toxic on the 20L bulk liquid). Marine pollutant, poison schedule S6. Flammability and dangerous goods classification differ by pack: the 500g aerosol is an extremely flammable aerosol, UN 1950 Class 2.1, and the 20L bulk liquid is a highly flammable liquid, UN 1993 Class 3, packing group II; see the variant details for each. The 500g aerosol has a flash point of 10 °C.

Both formats are classed as Carcinogenicity Category 2: suspected of causing cancer.
