CRC Blue Zinc Anti-Corrosive Satin Enamel Coating 400ml Aerosol
Available
CRC Coloured Zinc is a zinc enriched satin enamel coating in an aerosol. CRC's data sheet says high levels of anti-corrosive zinc complexes are embedded in a resin system, forming a quick-drying enamel coating with adhesion to bare metal.
This listing covers Blue (CRC product number 2097) and White (CRC product number 2090), both 400ml aerosols. The CRC range has seven colours; only these two are listed here. CRC also describes a coating system: CRC Zinc It as primer, CRC Prep It as an intermediate coat if a high film build is needed, and Coloured Zinc as the finish coat.
Where this product is used
- Finish coat on bare steel, iron and their welds, and on other bare metal surfaces
- Over CRC Etch It, Zinc It, Prep It and Prime It
- Top coat in CRC's recommended system: Zinc It primer, Prep It intermediate coat, Coloured Zinc finish coat
- Re-coating over its own existing film or over clean surfaces for ongoing protection
Features
- Zinc enriched: high levels of anti-corrosive zinc complexes in a protective enamel coating
- Satin finish; Blue and White in this listing
- Heat resistance up to 120 °C
- Corrosion Protection Factor 36; CRC says up to 3 years before recoating, depending on conditions
- Touch dry in 15 to 20 minutes and full cure in 24 hours, per CRC's application data

Selecting the right option
CRC recommends priming with CRC Aerosol Zinc It Galvanic Rust Protection 350g and using CRC Prep It Anti-Corrosive High Build Easy Metal Primer 2114 - 400ml as an intermediate coat when a high film build is wanted. The other colours in the CRC range are on CRC Zinc Rust Protection.
Using it
Surface preparation per CRC: remove signs of corrosion with a wire brush or emery paper. If rust cannot be removed, treat the surface with CRC Rust Converter after thoroughly abrading the rusty areas. Clean with CRC Brakleen or a similar degreaser if required, and where possible abrade with disc grinding, wire brush or sandpaper.
Shake the can until the agitator ball is moving freely, then for at least 1 further minute. Apply a number of thin coats with smooth even strokes to a clean, dry surface, holding the can approximately 25cm from the surface.
When finished, clean the valve by turning the can upside down and pressing the button until only pressure escapes. Clean up with mineral turpentine or white spirits.
CRC's data sheet gives two recoat statements: the application data says overcoat within 1 hour or after 24 hours, while the feature line says recoat within 30 minutes. The application data is used on this page.
Storage and handling
Do not puncture, incinerate or store above 50 °C. Do not place in direct sunlight or near any heat source. CRC gives a conditional warranty of 5 years from the date of manufacture.
Limits and safety
SDS classification: signal word Danger. Extremely flammable aerosol. Pressurised container: may burst if heated. Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. May damage fertility or the unborn child. May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. Transport: UN 1950, Aerosols, Class 2.1, no packing group allocated. Aerosol cans will conduct electricity: keep away from all live electrical sources including battery terminals, solenoids and electrical panels. Keep away from naked flames and ignition sources. Frequently asked questions
What temperature does CRC Coloured Zinc resist?
CRC's data sheet gives heat resistance up to 120 °C.
How long before I can recoat CRC Coloured Zinc?
CRC's application data says overcoat within 1 hour or after 24 hours. Touch dry is 15 to 20 minutes and full cure is 24 hours.
What is the coverage of a 400ml can?
CRC gives a theoretical coverage of up to 2 m² per aerosol can (up to 10 m² per 1 L).
Does CRC Coloured Zinc need a primer?
