CRC Red RTV Gasket 85g
Available
CRC Red RTV Gasket is a room temperature vulcanising (RTV) silicone gasket maker supplied as a red paste in an 85g tube. CRC's New Zealand product page describes it as a heavy-duty silicone for high-temperature applications, and lists general machinery and automotive gasketing.
It is an acetoxy-type cure: the SDS says it releases acetic acid on curing, with a vinegar odour, so use it with good ventilation. CRC says it is not to be used as a head gasket.

Selecting the right option
For a cartridge-dispensed RTV with a bead-width nozzle see CRC RTV Silicone Select-A-Bead Sealant; the two products have different data sheets and their temperature figures should not be treated as equal. To remove old gasket material first see CRC Aerosol Gasket Stripper Safe On Aluminium, Steel & Brass 300g.
Using it
CRC has not published directions for this product in the documents we hold. Follow the directions on the pack and read the safety data sheet before use.
Use with good ventilation: the SDS says the product releases acetic acid on curing, which is a strong respiratory irritant, with the hazard mainly in poorly ventilated areas.
CRC New Zealand states it is not recommended for use on copper or brass, is not to be used as a head gasket and is not suitable for stove pipes or fireplaces.
Storage and handling
Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated area away from incompatible materials, heat and ignition sources. Avoid exposure to moisture and keep sealed when not in use. The SDS says to store as a Class C1 combustible liquid (AS1940).
Limits and safety
The Australian SDS (14 Feb 2018) states the product is not classified as hazardous under Safe Work Australia criteria and is not a dangerous good; it describes the product as low toxicity and an irritant. It is a Class C1 combustible with a flash point above 93 °C. Acetic acid released on curing is a strong respiratory irritant. Incompatible with oxidising agents (for example hypochlorites), acids (for example nitric acid) and alkalis (for example sodium hydroxide). Not to be used as a head gasket, on copper or brass, or on stove pipes or fireplaces (CRC New Zealand). Read the safety data sheet before use.
