Dy-Mark 19013501 Flawchek Step 1 Preclean 270g

Dy-Mark Flawchek is a four-part visible dye penetrant inspection system for detecting cracks and flaws in metals and castings, supplied as single aerosols for each step or as a 4-part kit (manufacturer-stated).

Dy-Mark describes it as a four-part visible inspection process that conforms to ASME, ASTM E165 and AS 2062 Type 2 Method C (manufacturer-stated). No certificate or test report is shown on this page: if your inspection procedure needs proof of conformance, ask for the maker's documents before you rely on it. The four steps are Step 1 Preclean (grey cap), Step 2 Penetrant (red cap), Step 3 Remover (blue cap) and Step 4 Developer (white cap). Dy-Mark lists 350g aerosols for the system and the kit as 3 x 350g and 1 x 270g.

Method from the technical data sheet: clean the area so it is dry and free of grease, oil, rust and paint; spray the Penetrant and let it dwell for 10 minutes (longer in very cold conditions); wipe off the excess and use a cloth with Remover; let the surface dry, then spray a light coat of Developer. Inspect after 2 to 3 minutes, and re-inspect after 20 minutes if very fine flaws are suspected. Shake each can for at least 45 seconds after the mixing ball begins to rattle. The Dy-Mark Safety Data Sheet lists this product as an extremely flammable aerosol in a pressurised container that may burst if heated (hazard statements H222 and H229). Read the Safety Data Sheet before use and keep the can away from heat, sparks and open flame.
