Loctite 3090 Two Component Gel 10g
Available
Loctite 3090 is a two-component, thixotropic ethyl cyanoacrylate gel. The two parts are blended as they pass through the mixer head, and the mixed gel bonds plastics, rubbers and metals.
It is designed for bond gaps up to 5 mm and for varying or undefined gaps, and excess adhesive cures completely. The gel stays put on vertical surfaces, and it also bonds porous materials such as wood, paper, leather and fabric.
Where this product is used
- Bonding plastics, rubbers and metals
- Bonding porous materials such as wood, paper, leather and fabric
- Parts that do not fit tightly, where the bond gap varies up to 5 mm
- Vertical surfaces, where a gel will not run
- Joints where excess adhesive must cure fully
Features
- Two-component cure, so excess adhesive cures completely
- Fills gaps up to 5 mm, including varying or undefined gaps
- Thixotropic gel that does not flow on vertical surfaces
- Handling strength achieved rapidly after mixing
- Open time of 90 to 180 seconds at 25 °C once mixed
- Mixed gel is clear to slightly cloudy
- 21 N/mm² lap shear on grit-blasted steel (24 h at 22 °C, ISO 4587)

Selecting the right option
Single-part cyanoacrylates such as Loctite 401 Instant Adhesive and Loctite 416 Super Bonder Instant Adhesive 25ml cure faster in thin bond lines and slow down as the gap widens. Loctite 3090 is the one to look at when the gap varies or is undefined, up to 5 mm.
For structural bonds with an activator, see Loctite AA 324 Structural Adhesive 50ml.
Using it
Blend parts A and B through the mixer head and discard the first 1 to 2 cm of the bead before you apply the adhesive.
Apply to one surface only, assemble within a few seconds, and hold or clamp the parts until the adhesive has fixtured. Open time once mixed is 90 to 180 seconds at 25 °C.
Cure speed depends on the materials, the gap and the temperature; the cure-speed graphs are in the Henkel data sheet. Allow about 24 hours before the joint takes service loads.
Storage and handling
Store unopened, in a dry place, at 2 °C to 8 °C. Storage below 2 °C or above 8 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product. Do not return material to the original container.
Limits and safety
Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. The Henkel data sheet states no operating temperature range, so check the hot strength graph against your service temperature. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
How big a gap can Loctite 3090 fill?
Up to 5 mm, including varying or undefined gaps. Excess adhesive cures completely because of the two-component cure.
How long is the open time of Loctite 3090?
90 to 180 seconds at 25 °C once the two parts are mixed. Assemble within a few seconds of applying it and hold the parts until fixtured.
How strong is Loctite 3090 on steel?
Lap shear on grit-blasted steel is 21 N/mm² after 24 hours at 22 °C (ISO 4587). Etched aluminium gives 9 N/mm² under the same conditions.
Will Loctite 3090 bond plastics and wood?
Yes. After 24 hours at 22 °C lap shear is 8 N/mm² on ABS and 12 N/mm² on polycarbonate, both with substrate failure, and 11 N/mm² on oak and on pine.
What temperature range does Loctite 3090 handle?
The Henkel data sheet states no operating range. Hot strength on steel was tested from -40 °C to 120 °C and is shown as a graph in the data sheet.
How should Loctite 3090 be stored?
Unopened and dry at 2 °C to 8 °C. Storage outside that range can adversely affect its properties.
