Loctite SF 754 Extend Rust Treatment 946ml

Loctite SF 754 Extend is a rust treatment based on synthetic latex resin. It is a milky liquid that reacts with rust to form a black coating, stops the rust, protects the surface and acts as a primer for the finish coat.

Typical uses are pipes, valves, storage tanks, guard rails, conveyors, overhead cranes, ductwork, agricultural equipment, and castings and stampings before final machining.

Selecting the right option

Most finish paints need no extra primer over Loctite SF 754. Light-coloured latex paints and metal-filled paints need a solvent-based primer over it first. Henkel's product page advises against water-based or zinc-rich topcoats and primers.

Using it

Mix thoroughly. Remove oil, dirt and grease, and wire brush flaky rust and loose scale. Some surface rust must remain, because the product reacts with it.

Brush or sponge it on liberally. Airless spray is also possible. A black coating appears within 5 minutes; recoat after 15 to 30 minutes.

For mild exterior exposure without a topcoat, a maximum of two coats is recommended. Severe environments need a suitable topcoat; for marine use, such as ship stacks, topcoat with marine paint. Allow 24 hours minimum before finish paint, and 7 to 14 days for environmental resistance.

Clean tools immediately with detergent and water.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry location, optimally between 8 °C and 28 °C. Storage outside this range can adversely affect the properties of the product. Protect from freezing.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. Henkel says to handle it as a highly flammable material and that the solvent can affect certain plastics or coatings. Severe environments need a suitable topcoat.
